Prayer for Holiness

“Am I in danger of being brainwashed by a world that has made tolerance a fine art? Am I tolerating sin in my life rather than seeking by Your grace to be rid of it?”

These are searching questions that the Christian writer and Minister, Selwyn Hughes, once asked himself. We might all need to ask ourselves the same from time to time. Perhaps, even this very minute…(Selah)

Let us Pray:
Lord,
Renew our vision of Your holiness;
Lest we make light what you call sin
And take grace for granted.
Keep our hearts alive to your Spirit
And tender to the Potter’s hand,
Sustain us with your grace and everlasting arms,
Help us fan into flames the fire of your love in us.
May we find our highest joy and pleasure only in You,
In so doing, become truly set apart for you.
Amen

About Just-A-Thought

Life can get very busy, fast and heavy. Sometimes living can become a challenge as life seems to always throw us at the deep end. In times like that, we need encouragement, a word of hope, a voice that assures that it gets better; that we should hang on. Just-A-Thought offers Christian words of hope in dispair, light in darkness, and strength to carry on.

Wonderful reminder. Society does influence our thoughts, and we thereby, are in danger of accepting sin our own and others without feeling the need for forgiveness and grace. Lord, help us to see sin as You see it. Amen.

We need you Holy Spirit, please help us to walk in your ways, pleasing God daily.

Amen and amen to that Joyce. You remind me of the words from the hymn “Come thou Fount of every blessing”- ‘prone to wander, Lord, I feel it; Prone to leave the God I love. here’s my heart, O take and seal it; seal it for thy courts above.’
Seal our hearts, Holy Spirit, for each day’s walk with you.

I was never one for morning devotionals, but my Bible in a year Holman Standard Bible had notes by Selwyn Hughes. They always seem to be wise words. Tolerance? Pah, we’re way over the top on that one.

“Tolerance? Pah, we’re way over the top on that one.” Very true on that one.
A friend recommended Selwyn sometime last year and I’ve been using his ‘Everyday with Jesus’ series ever since. He is currently dealing with some hard issues on Grace. ‘Wise words’ like you said.
