Love is Giving

1In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God…14The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.” John 1:1 & 14

It is so easy to get sucked into the festivities, the buying of gifts, wrapping of presents, travels, jingle bells, etc, and miss out completely on the very essence of Christmas.

Christmas is about a demonstrated love – God taking the first step to bring us back to himself through his Son Jesus. Now, gifts and turkey carvings are delightful, but what’s more delightful is that God desires a relationship with us- not because he needs relationship by the way, but because we were made for relationship. In him, with him, we find our true selves and purpose.

So this Christmas, remember Who it is really about and do make some space and time for Him.
Have a blessed Christmas time.

God Sees The Best In You

Do you know people who only see the cup as half full? That’s not your God.

God always wants the best for you and sees the best in you. Sure, He wants you to “fix up” in those challenging areas of your life, but through it all, He’s rooting for you to get it right.

Imagine running in a stadium and you’re about to beat Usain Bolt in the 100metres; there’s someone cheering wildly in the crowds and shouting at the top of their lungs. That’s God cheering you on and waving a banner saying “You can do it!”. Just imagine that.

God sees the best in you, but how you see yourself matters. So today, look in the mirror, what do you see? I see greatness.

Keep Believing

Lazarus, a ‘beloved’ friend of Jesus, was on his dying bed. Mary & Martha, Lazarus’ sisters, sent word to Jesus to come heal him. But by the time Jesus finally arrived, Lazarus was already dead and buried for ‘four days’ (John 11). Seemingly, God, was four days late! Mary rebuked Jesus on his arrival – ‘If you had been here, my brother will still be alive…’- her legitimate expression of disappointment.

However, here’s the amazing part- Jesus responds “Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God?” He then goes to Lazarus’ tomb and calls the dead man back to life. Hallelujah!

Here’s the moral: nothing is ever too difficult for the Lord. He might be four days late, but He will surely be on time- God’s time. Sounds trite, but will forever hold true – You only need to hold on, and keep believing…

Shine Bright

How many times haven’t we heard someone pray about the ‘darkness’ that has now covered our nations and the evil that seems ever so prevalent and knowing no end? Well, one of the possible explanations might be- If darkness is prevailing, it is because the light is not shining.”You are light of the world…So let your light so shine” Matt 5:14,16. Shine bright for the Lord wherever you are to banish the ‘darkness’.

You can make a world of a difference.

Our Image in God

Could it be true that the devil has had us look at our image in a cracked mirrow for so long that we tend to believe that image is true, and fail to see the ‘new man’ that God has made?

We were made in God’s ‘own image’, after His ‘likeness’ (Gen 1:26), then sin came in, and brokenness followed. But, thanks be to God, anyone who believes in Jesus Christ ‘is a new creation- the old IS gone, ALL things have become new!’ (2 Cor. 5:17)

Love of Neighbour

“This rough world sometimes needs to be rebuked, and if we can get at the ears of the people, it is our business to reprove them; and I think if ever there was a time when this text needed to be enlarged upon, it is just now. It is so often forgotten, so seldom remembered, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.’

‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.’ – We can split it into three parts. Whom am I to love? My neighbour. What am I to do? I am to love him. How am I to do it? I am to love him as myself.” – Charles Spurgeon

Something to reflect on: a) Who is your ‘neighbour’? and b) What might be the practical implications of loving neighbour as yourself?
