Get Up and Try Again (Reblogged)

Ever heard the following song:

Get up and try again, smile away that pain
Brush away that tear, dear child your Father’s near
He will always understand and lend a helping hand
Lovingly He’ll say, “Get up and try again”.

As you go through the week, keep this in mind: No matter what has happened in the past, the Lord is closer to you than your very breath!

Midnight Ponder

You spoke the stars into existence;
You know their number,
and call each by name!
The sun, You made to shine by day,
the moon, by night.
The whole universe You skilfully crafted-
a theatre of your glory and power.
O how great You are!

How small I am!
Weak. Fickle.
Proud. Unbelieving. Selfish.
Here now
But like a flower,
Blossom. Wither. Fall. Gone.
Such are the days appointed to me.

Yet, like the stars,
You know me by name;
And care for my every need.
The glory of heaven,
You gave up for me.
How wonderful the thought,
That You, who is Lord of creation,
And centre of Heaven’s praise,
Could make a home in this poor heart of mine.

Lord, help my weak, fickle,
Proud, Unbelieving and Selfish heart.
May Your life be repeated in mine.

What a Privilege!

Five songs are sung by the angels, elders and the four creatures in Revelations 4 & 5. All of the songs speak of the power, splendour and majesty of God and Jesus – they are all objective (of the person or being of God). This is great and should be the centre of our own worship individually or as  a gathered church.

It’s easy to notice that none of the songs is ever subjective – of emotions, experience, or depicting a relationship with God. Why? Maybe because the angels and creatures of God have never really tasted what we have here – a personal father-child relationship. They don’t know the experience of redemption or being saved from darkness into light.

Its only people like us, the redeemed of God, children of God, that can sing songs like ‘How he loves me’, ‘You will never leave me’, ‘Your steadfast love never ceases’, or simply – ‘I love you, Lord’. What a privilege!

Go on – pour your heart out to God – begin like the angels, but don’t forget to end it like a child of God – dearly loved and precious.

Love of Neighbour

“This rough world sometimes needs to be rebuked, and if we can get at the ears of the people, it is our business to reprove them; and I think if ever there was a time when this text needed to be enlarged upon, it is just now. It is so often forgotten, so seldom remembered, ‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.’

‘Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.’ – We can split it into three parts. Whom am I to love? My neighbour. What am I to do? I am to love him. How am I to do it? I am to love him as myself.” – Charles Spurgeon

Something to reflect on: a) Who is your ‘neighbour’? and b) What might be the practical implications of loving neighbour as yourself?

Fully Forgiven!

“Father, I long to realise more and more the extent to which I have been forgiven, for I see that is the key to so many things in my spiritual life. Touch my heart, my mind, my imagination, as I reflect on this today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.”

A simple, yet profound prayer by Selwyn Hughes in the devotional ‘Everyday with Jesus’. Indeed, only those who realise they have been fully forgiven can live free to love and serve The Lord and others.

Read the prayer once more, slowly and reflectively.
May The Lord minister to your heart with this simple prayer.

Prayer at Christmas

The Saviour was born to bring us freedom and hope- May that be your experience this Christmas.

He was born to show us how to live- Humbly, to love mercy and yield our lives to the Father in heaven.

He came to earth to bring light into our darkness- May His light shine brightly in any area of your life that needs illumination (finance, spiritual, health, marriage, etc)

May Christ be reborn in our hearts today and always.

Have a Merry Christmas and a New Year of renewed hope.

Live Purposefully

You are important to God and you should live as such.

God loves you so much He sent his only Son to lay down his life for you. You may not be where you want to be today, but you are certainly not where you used to be. Discover your purpose in Christ, pursue it with all diligence, even in the most mundane task. You will never miss your ‘well done’- both here on earth or on Christ’s return.

How Happy Are You?

Could you be happier than you presently are?  Your chances of finding lasting happiness, depends largely on whether you truly believe the Word of God concerning you.

God calls you his ‘own’, addresses you as ‘beloved’ and ‘rejoices over you with gladness.’ He knows you ‘by name’ and longs for you to find your joy in Him, and Him alone.

Make a habit of regularly reading the Word of God yourself. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you believe all God says concerning you and pray for grace to live each day as a child of the King. Discover your true self in the Word of God.

Bring on life!

“What life does to us depends on what it finds in us.” I chose to have Jesus in me. Now, bring on life!!

Prayer Over Fear

If the light of God surrounds me, if his love enfolds me, if the presence of God encourages me, and his power defends me- why should I be afraid? May all my fears be dissolved in the great quiet of God, Amen”

A New Leaf

For anyone that might be struggling with mistakes of the past….May you know the grace and mercy of God through this poem.

He came to my desk with quivering lip–
The lesson was done.
“Dear Teacher I want a new leaf,” he said,
“I have spoiled this one.”
I took the old leaf, stained and blotted,
And gave him a new one all unspotted,
And into his sad eyes smiled,
“Do better now, my child.”

I went to the throne with a quivering soul–
The old year [day] was done.
“Dear Father, hast Thou a new leaf for me?
I have spoiled this one.”
He took the old leaf, stained and blotted,
And gave me a new one all unspotted,
And into my sad heart smiled,
“Do better now, My child.”

Get up and try again

Ever heard the following song:

Get up and try again, smile away that pain

Easter Reflection

Easter is a time of hope, victory and love- that Christ died so that we can have eternal life. The death of Christ teaches us true forgiveness and sacrifice, and His resurrection gives us hope of eternity with God.

The message of Easter is simple- ‘God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whosoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.’ The cross of Christ thus stands as a reminder of this great sacrifice and love of God.

This, the power of the cross:
Christ became sin for us;
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross.

This, the power of the cross:
Son of God slain for us.
What a love! What a cost!
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Keith Getty & Stuart Townend

Spend some time to reflect on the real meaning of Easter this year.
