‘Life is not fair!’

“Life is not fair! If there is a loving and all-powerful God, why should He allow people to suffer!?”

Very legitimate question and concerns raised by a lot of people, even the most devout Christians. Nicky Gumbel (Author: Searching Issues) details a conversation between Gavin, a Pastor & a boy who had fallen down the stairs at a very young age, consequently had been in and out of hospital.

Gavin: ‘How old are you?’
Boy: 17
G: ‘How many years have you spent in hospital?’
B: 13
G: ‘do you think that is fair?’
B: ‘God’s got all eternity to make it up to me.’

Wow! What depth of insight! The young man got this – “Yet what we suffer now is nothing compared to the glory he will reveal to us later.” Rom 8:18 (cf 2 Corinthians 4:17)

May you know God’s comfort in your present sufferings.

Living by Grace in 2013

“His [God’s] divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue” 2 Peter 1:3

God does indeed provide everything we need to live the lives his called us to. His grace is always sufficient for every trial and His providence is enough for each day.

Selwyn Hughes puts it this way – “God’s finger never points the way without His hand providing the strength to accomplish the task He has for you” May the Holy Spirit guide you into this amazing, worry-free and fear-relieving truth.

May you know His grace for every trial and may His everlasting arms bear and sustain you through everyday of 2013.

Lay you crosses, cares, and fears before the Lord with faith, prayer and trust.

Testing of Your Faith

The phrase ‘testing of your faith’ bears a picture of a precious metal which is heated to melting point so that all the impurities rise to the top and can be scrapped away. The finished produce is pure, complete and of a better value. Can trials and difficulties achieve completeness, strength and character in us?

For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” James 1:3-4

Begone Unbelief

Begone, unbelief; my Saviour is near,
And for my relief will surely appear;
By prayer let me wrestle, and He will perform;
With Christ in the vessel, I smile at the storm.

Though dark be my way, since He is my guide,
‘Tis mine to obey, ’tis His to provide…

His love in time past forbids me to think
He’ll leave me at last in trouble to sink;

Why should I complain of want or distress,
Temptation or pain? He told me no less;
The heirs of salvation, I know from His Word,
Through much tribulation must follow their Lord.

Since all that I meet shall work for my good,
The bitter is sweet, the medicine, food;
Though painful at present, ’twill cease before long;
And then, O how pleasant the conqueror’s song.

~ John Newton, 1779
